Flat Disc Type

Flat Disc Type Temporary Strainer

Flat Disc Type strainers look like a tennis bat and comprises a flat disc, which incorporates a perforated hole section covering the pipe bore area. Although not advisable, meshes are sometimes added to one side facing the flow for finer straining. To identify and assist handling, a handle is provided onto which is normally stamped the size and rating of the flange and the strainer retention.

Advantages

  • Low Cost
  • Ease and simplicity of installation, no need for spool pieces etc.

Disadvantages

  • Open filtration is less than pipe bore area, which will induce higher initial pressure differentials
  • Reduces process flow slightly
  • Low dirt holding capacity - will clog up very quickly if large quantity of contaminant is present
